Sump Pump Not Working? Check This First
Before a storm, a quick check tells you whether the pump will run when you need it.
1. Check the Power
Make sure the pump is plugged in and the outlet and breaker are on. A tripped GFCI outlet is a common cause.
2. Test the Float
Slowly pour a bucket of water into the pit. The pump should start, empty the pit and shut off on its own.
3. Call (610) 489-2717
If the pump hums, runs nonstop or does not start, call us. We answer 24/7.
Sump Pump Repair & Replacement
A sump pump that fails during heavy rain or the spring thaw can leave inches of water in a finished basement. Most failures come from a stuck float switch, a burned-out motor, a clogged intake or a frozen or blocked discharge line.
We find the cause, repair what can be repaired, and replace pumps that are worn out or too small for the water your pit collects.
Stuck Float Switch
Pump will not turn on or will not shut off.
Running Nonstop
Undersized pump, failed check valve or high water table.
Loud or Humming
Worn motor, jammed impeller or debris in the pit.
Water in the Basement
Pump failed, lost power or could not keep up.
Many sump pumps last around 7 to 10 years. If yours is older than that, replace it before the wet season rather than after it fails.
New Sump Pumps & Backup Systems
We install submersible and pedestal sump pumps sized for your pit and water table, with a check valve and a properly routed discharge line.
A battery backup pump keeps working when the power goes out in a storm, which is exactly when a basement is most likely to flood. We can add one to an existing pit.
Submersible Pumps
Quiet and sealed, sits inside the pit.
Pedestal Pumps
Motor above the pit; good for narrow pits.
Battery Backup
Keeps pumping during power outages.
High Water Alarms
Warns you before water reaches the floor.
Discharge water should exit well away from the foundation and walkways, so it does not refreeze or run back toward the house.

Sump Pump FAQs
How long does a sump pump last?
Many last around 7 to 10 years, depending on how often they run. Replace an older pump before the wet season rather than waiting for it to fail.
Do I need a battery backup sump pump?
If your basement is finished or stores anything you care about, it is worth it. Storms that bring heavy rain also knock out power, and a standard pump cannot run without it.
Why does my sump pump run all the time?
A stuck float switch, a failed check valve letting water flow back into the pit, a pump that is too small, or a high water table. We find which one it is.
Pedestal or submersible: which is better?
Submersible pumps are quieter and usually move more water; pedestal pumps are easier to service and fit narrow pits. We recommend one based on your pit and how much water it collects.
Can a sump pump discharge line freeze?
Yes. A line that holds water or ends in a low spot can freeze in winter and force water back into the pit. We route and slope discharge lines so they drain fully.
